"Food should indulge your insides as well as your senses"
Katharine Smith 2014
Conscious Food is not just Organic, Fair Trade, Sustainable, Ecologically minded, nor is it just Sugar Free, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free, GAPS, AIP.... and so on, and so on.
It embodies so much more than that.
Most people know that I'm a major food snob. I originally studied Hospitality in the hope that one day I would own my own cafe or Boutique Hotel (which I'm now working towards), but whilst I was absorbed in the world of an 9-5 office job, I took part in the Hospitality world by enjoying endless visits to cafes, restaurants, wineries and the occasional nice hotel.
A really big part of me is very grateful for TV shows like Master chef and celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver and Donna Hay which taught people to appreciate endless possibilities of food, but so much of this has been purely designed with your senses in mind.
I've learnt so much this last 11 months on this journey. Despite how much I've learnt I still have such a long way to go in truly understanding what my body needs and how to heal 33 years of damage.
Everyone is so different and yet the same. This is what makes the journey of working out which aspect of the current Health & Wellness world applies to you and your circumstances, your life, your chemistry, your desires.
There appears to still be so much stigmatism surrounding "healthy" at the moment in and around the Health & Wellness industry.
Even I admit that I used to think the concept of Veganism was super hippy and often thought to myself "but what do you eat?" Or that "healthy food" meant boring, tasteless, lifeless food destined to fail most people.
When the word "diet" is mentioned to me even now I cringe. I do wonder if someone had used different terminology and delivery in my younger years whether I would have been able to adapt my eating without all the emphasis being on "weight" rather than health.
Let's hope we can educate our future generations better than we have our own.
There are sooooo many amazing health advocates out there trying to spread the good message. Hopefully you find some who "speaks" to you.
Here's to continuing the journey on finding my way through the health and wellness world.
Eat yourself healthy
